With this in mind, Novus are currently looking for a Catering Assistant (Vocational Technician), to work within HMYOI Wetherby. The role can be challenging, yet highly rewarding. 

The purpose of this role is to Support the teaching and learning objectives of planned curriculum programmes through the provision of technical support. You will also be required to order and maintain all materials required by learners for the lessons and assessment.

Key responsibilities (but not limited to) are as follows:

  • Work proactively to ensure materials and Catering Assistant (Vocational Technician), support is provided to ensure learning aims are achieved
  • Ensure safe and secure working practices are adhered to at all times. Conduct/reference risk assessments as necessary. Provide technical advice on safe working practices.
  • Manage, audit and maintain all stock and technical resources/equipment needed in support of curriculum areas ensuring staff and learners are able to utilise equipment as and when required.
  • Ensure safe and secure storage and transport of materials to maximise storage space.
  • Prepare equipment and materials for use and securely tidy up at the end of sessions, with particular emphasis on the safe collection and auditing of all tools in line with establishment standards.

As a successful candidate you will have:

  • Knowledge of current food/health and safety legislation. 
  • Relevant qualifications or equivalent professional experience within the hospitality industry.
  • Ability to source and monitor the use of material costs effectively in relation to the production brief.
  • Effective team working to meet the aims and objectives within the curriculum.
  • Ability to provide first-line maintenance support of all technical equipment and resources.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective and efficient time management skills and work under pressure to meet deadlines. 
  • Track record of working effectively with people presenting with challenging behaviour.
  • Gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
