Pathway Leader – Foundation (MAGPI - Moving Image, Advertising, Graphics, Photography, Illustration)

Fixed Term (Up to 12 months maternity cover)

Leeds College of Art has played a central role in providing specialist education in art, design and the crafts for 170 years and has developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students. This is an exciting and dynamic time in the College’s strategic development. The Privy Council recently granted the College Taught Degree Awarding Powers (TDAP) and we are now working towards becoming the first specialist arts university in the North.

A vacancy has arisen for a joint Pathway Leader in the MAGPi (Moving Image, Advertising, Graphics, Photography, Illustration) pathway on the Foundation Diploma. The duties of the post include teaching general visual language during the diagnostic introductory stage of this one-year course and then taking shared responsibility for the planning and delivery of the MAGPi specialist pathway. There will be administrative responsibilities in addition to the teaching.

The MAGPi pathway deals with students who are interested in applying for degree courses in film, animation, graphic design, visual communication, illustration, games design, photography and creative advertising. A strong interest in contemporary visual communication and a knowledge of both hand made and digital processes and materials will be essential to the role.

Applicants should have a degree in a related subject and a teaching qualification. They should be able to demonstrate a technical appreciation of processes and equipment relevant to the pathway, knowledge of industry and courses at degree level that could benefit the students learning experience and progression into HE and a clear understanding of the administration requirements to support the management and delivery of the course. Experience of teaching in the FE sector would be desirable.
