Cover Tutor in Maths Skills for Life (HMP Ford)

We are seeking to appoint flexible hourly paid Cover Tutors to our existing bank of staff to provide sickness and holiday cover all year round at HMP Ford.

HMP Ford is an open prison (low risk) situated near Arundel in rural West Sussex. College staff, working in partnership with prison colleagues, create a cohesive learning journey underpinned by Functional English and Maths for adults in custody. Maths and English Functional Skills courses are delivered as discreet provision in stand-alone classes, outreach or embedded in vocational/training workshops, from Entry to Level 2. In its last three inspections, OFSTED repeatedly graded Ford`s education provision as Good, with areas Outstanding. 

Novus Group is a large scale social enterprise which delivers learning and skills in over 100 sites within Her Majesty`s Prisons, private sector prisons, Approved Premises and the community. Working closely with stakeholders, we provide locally determined, high quality provision which meets the needs and interests of learners.

Learners develop skills which will help them to find and sustain employment on release. This raises the aspirations of offenders, which effectively supports their progression to employment and responds to the needs of employers. This, in turn, makes a positive contribution to reducing the risk of re-offending.

Reporting to the OLASS (Education) Manager the purpose of this role (but not limited to) is as follows:

• Develop lesson plans based around best practice and quality targets
• Actively contribute to learner`s development
• Ensure the safeguarding of learners.
• Ideal candidates will be non-judgmental, patient, flexible, and have the ability to effectively communicate and motivate learners from a variety of backgrounds to engage in education, in line with our mission to `improve lives and economic success through learning and skills.` 

Candidates applying for Cover Tutor roles must hold a teaching qualification (minimum Cert Ed/PGCE) OR a subject specialist qualification at degree level / level 5 or equivalent, with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within a specified timescale.
