Teacher - ESOL 16-23 (LUM377/1365)

About the Role

Leeds City College are recruiting for a Teacher of ESOL to join our team.

We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to lead and facilitate group activities, fostering positive group dynamics, managing conflict, and promoting teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, motivate, and empower young ESOL people at very low language level.
  • Must possess empathy and understanding for the unique challenges faced by asylum seekers and children looked after, and those who are care experienced.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of young people, promoting inclusion and sensitivity to individual backgrounds and cultures.
  • Experience working with young people aged 16-23, particularly those facing barriers like unemployment, underachievement, or additional support needs.

What You Will Do

  • Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.
  • Develop the essential knowledge and understanding to teach ESOL learners.
  • Create individual SMART learning targets linked to learner study programme/course.
  • Monitor students to achieve their targets and develop their skills to enable progression.

About You

  • You should hold a L5 Teaching Qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE, Delta). Celta is not recognised in the UK as a full teaching qualification, but successful applicants can be supported to complete a L5 Teaching Qualification with the college with department financial support.
  • You should have UK ESOL based experience teaching aged 16-23 ESOL students in colleges in the UK.
  • You should have a relevant degree in English, or similar.
