Contract: Part time 0.8 FTE (29.6 hours per week), Permanent

Art and Design at Nottingham College is growing and our thriving ceramics department needs an excellent technician to join us! We are looking to expand the technical support within our Art & Design Department and are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced technical instructor who specialises in ceramics. Additional skills in any of the following would also be of benefit:

  • glaze making and glaze knowledge
  • plaster work (casting and moulding)
  • glass work
  • 3D printing or laser cutter operation.

As a Technical Instructor, you'll play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant learning environment by providing comprehensive technical support to our 16-18 full time learners as well as our adult learners. Applicants will require experience of working with students in educational settings, excellent team-work and good organisational skills. The Art & Design Faculty is a high performing and ambitious team to work within, and as such, applicants must also have the ability to work under pressure, be proactive and adaptable to change. Working flexible hours and being an excellent communicator across teams and with external stakeholders is essential.

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  • Give practical assistance and expert advice on the utilisation of equipment and the application of various ceramic processes and techniques.
  • Deliver day to day organisation and management of the ceramic’s workshops, specialist plaster equipment and glaze lab, whilst also ensuring Health and Safety policies.
  • Possess a rich repertoire of ceramic techniques and exhibit specialist knowledge of materials, hand tools, equipment and machinery
  • Oversee and monitor workshop usage and collaborate with academic, technical and research staff.
  • Develop engaging learning materials to enhance the educational experience of our students.

You will join a group of passionate and dedicated staff who offer innovative and supporting learning to different cohorts, ranging from Entry level through to level 6. 25 Stoney Street, based in the Lace Market, is a dedicated College centre for studies in Art & Design, with a team of specialist Creative Work-Shop Instructors who underpin the technical coordination of studios, health & safety and resource management.
