GBSIoT Undergraduate Engineering Placement Student

Fixed term placement, up to 52 weeks

An Institute of Technology (IoT) is an exciting place to gain top-quality training and qualifications in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)-based subjects. Located across England, IoTs are a national network of partnerships between local colleges, universities, and leading employers. Backed by a £290 million government investment, IoTs deliver the very best in technical education.

The Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology (GBSIoT) partnership is led by Solihull College and University Centre, alongside core partners Birmingham City University, South and City College Birmingham and Aston University, supported by Birmingham Metropolitan College, University of Birmingham, and University College Birmingham.

We wish to recruit an Engineering Undergraduate Placement Student (EUPS) who will have the opportunity to use their technical skills and apply them to improve links between local engineering businesses and GBSIoT partners working with our educational institutions.

The successful candidate will identify specific employers with whom to engage and bring into the GBSIoT ecosystem, learn about the SME workforce profile and the technical challenges they face adopting I4.0, facilitate the development of models of resourcing which facilitate local SME employers to develop capacity to design, and implement and maintain industry 4.0 technologies within their existing staff teams.

Candidates should be coming to the end of their second year of study and be able to start the placement between July and September 2024 and will need to be enrolled on a course in the UK that is at degree level and has the option to take an industrial placement or ‘sandwich’ year between the second and third year of study. Candidates must also have right to work in the UK that is not time limited and does not require sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route either at the start of the scheme or on completion.

Solihull College & University Centre is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all students and expects all staff to engage fully with this commitment.
