Schools Outreach Leader

The Position: We’re looking for a Schools Outreach Leader.

Do you have experience of working with students aged 11-16, and a good knowledge of careers education, advice, and guidance (CEIAG)? Then we need you!

We want all students in our area and beyond to be ready and equipped to start their career pathway at NWSLC, be that in automotive, green technologies, hairdressing, beauty, construction, health care, engineering, performing arts, media, games design or one of the many other areas on offer. The Schools Outreach Coordinator will work strategically with schools and our wider education community, to ensure that young people are engaged with and considering us as their first-choice post 16 destination. They will get out into schools and bring staff and students on site to see NWSLC for themselves. This role is multi-dimensional, as not only will the postholder be a main point of contact for schools and careers leaders, but they will also host events that raise the profile of our offer for students, as well, as providing appropriate advice and guidance, and a tool kit for schools to use in enhancing their careers education offer, with NWSLC at the heart of this. Traditionally this role has sat within our marketing team, but we want this new role, within our schools team, will work across a number of areas, including curriculum, student experience and marketing, bringing together best practice and new approaches to further enhance our work with schools, students and the local community. 

Requirements for the role:

  • Appropriate careers leader qualification (Level 6) or be prepared to gain this within 2 years of appointment.
  • A good knowledge of the secondary and further education sector is required to ensure a rapid impact in the work we do with local schools, students and partners.
  • The postholder will have a strategic approach to schools’ liaison within the local area and work closely with local authorities and educational stakeholders. The skills and experience to do this will be key.
  • The postholder will build relationships internally with curriculum managers, and externally with local employers’, schools, and other education providers to secure a high-quality CEIAG curriculum programme locally that supports young people to move into appropriate and aspirational courses at NWSLC. Securing them on their journey to success through learning.
  • They will be expected to support schools in achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks, by delivering training, support and events that have a positive impact on the career’s education of our school communities, and the lives and education of young people; ultimately supporting students in the next step in their education.
  • Experience of working with students aged 11-16.
  • Public speaking skills and experience are an essential requirement of this role, given the need to present at events and assemblies.

Responsibilities for the role:

  • Coordination of all school's outreach work.
  • Hosting events to engage careers leaders and those working in Careers Education, Information.
  • Advice and Guidance CEIAG to understand the pathways, courses, and facilities on offer at NWSLC.
  • Provision of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance CEIAG for students, schools and partner organisations.
  • Support schools in achieving the Gatbsy Benchmarks.
  • Leading on the development and updating of a school's toolkit that enables schools to engage students in thinking about starting their career at NWSLC.
  • Hosting school emersion visits to experience NWSLC and see first-hand the career pathways, and courses available, and facilities on offer.
  • Liaison with schools and their respective careers leaders.
  • Leadership and coordination of 14-16 and schools' skills competitions.

The Location: The site is based in Nuneaton or Wigston (Flexible working available). This is a great region to live in, with plenty of social and other facilities together with great transport links.
