Head of Department - English and Maths

About the Role

The main purpose of this role is to provide committed leadership of English and maths, instilling an ambitious vision, embodying inspirational  management and developing a culture of high expectations for the delivery of English and maths across the RNN Group. 

As the Head of Department for English and Maths you will manage the Group’s new, innovative and inspirational English and maths zones, ensuring they are more than just classrooms but areas in which learners’ access highly individualised learning tasks and activities to develop their powerful knowledge, skills and behaviours.

As Head of Department you will be responsible for instilling a dynamic curriculum and academic leadership of English and maths, striving for outstanding results and learner progress at all times. You will lead and operationally manage a multi-campus English and Maths department that ensures every learner, irrespective of starting point, makes meaningful progress and achieves outcomes that improve their future prospects.

You will be accountable for the design and quality of English and maths education, analysing management information, identifying and accounting for poor performance and sharing outstanding performance to rapidly raise standards.

You will…

You will have experience and commitment of  educational leadership and management, a strong track record of inspiring and managing effective teams, academic credibility of excellent teaching and managing and implementing FE quality improvement processes.

To be successful as Head of Department for English and Maths you will have a practical experience and understanding of the EIF, and experience of leading cross college projects and collaborating with key stakeholders within the FE sector.

You will need to be a strong communicator, able to influence and motivate a diverse range of people.

Achievement of a degree level qualification, a recognised teaching qualification with evidence of recent CPD. Ideally you will also hold a relevant post-graduate qualification and an online learning certification such as Google Educator.

You will hold a minimum of a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths.

Department Info

The role is Head of Department – English and Maths will report to the Director of Adult Education, English & Maths and Contracts. You will line manage the Deputy Head of English and Maths roles and English & Maths Work Based Learning Lead.
