Who we need

We are seeking to appoint a Communication Support Worker to work with the Deaf Access Team at Nottingham College at a variety of college sites.

The successful candidate will hold a Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language (BSL) and have some experience of working in the post-16 environment. They must also have the ability to work flexibly within different curriculum areas, work as a team member and liaise with the Additional Learning Support Lecturer for Deaf Students and other CSWs and Educational Interpreters to ensure D/deaf students are supported.

This position requires excellent communication skills to facilitate and develop good working relationships with tutors, the wider Additional Learning Support Team and other college staff.

What you’ll bring

• Both direct and indirect, for D/deaf students with a variety of communication support needs, primarily in the learning environment, which includes evening classes.
• Apply appropriate communication methods suitable to the individual needs and preferences of the student to enable the student to access information and to facilitate two-way communication.
• Provide support for D/deaf students during activities outside the classroom.
• Undertake appropriate training and staff development including continual professional development in respect of British Sign Language skills, electronic notetaking, language modification, interpreting into English.
• Observe all college policies / procedures / working practices / regulations and in particular to comply with the college’s Equality and Diversity Policy, Health and Safety Policy, Financial Regulations, Safeguarding Policy and the Code of Conduct.
