About the Role

The role of a Functional Skills apprenticeship teacher is to support and assess individuals undertaking maths and English as part of an apprenticeship programme. As a functional skills teacher you will play a vital role in ensuring that apprentices develop the necessary skills and knowledge

The Functional skills teacher plays a crucial role in guiding, assessing, and supporting learners on their journey to becoming skilled and competent professionals.

What You Will Do

Assessment and Delivery: As the teacher you are responsible for conducting assessments of the learners Maths and English work, whilst ensuring your class sessions support their ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings. You will also support the development of Maths and English skills

Guidance and Support: As the teacher you will provide guidance and support to learners throughout their educational journey and offer advice on the learning process, provide feedback on work submitted, and assist in developing action plans for improvement. Regularly providing constructive feedback to learners helps them understand their strengths and areas for improvement

Individual Learning Plans: The teacher will work with learners to create individual learning plans tailored to their specific needs and learning styles. These plans outline the goals, objectives, and milestones of the apprenticeship.

Awarding Body Compliance: As a Functional Skills teacher you will ensure that all assessment activities align with the requirements and guidelines of the awarding body that oversees the program of study.

Record Keeping: Accurate and detailed record keeping is crucial for monitoring and tracking learner’ progress. The teacher will be responsible for maintaining records of assessments, feedback, and any additional support provided to the learners.

Quality Assurance: As part of the quality assurance process, teacher will participate in standardisation meetings with other staff members to ensure consistency and fairness in the assessment process.

Safeguarding: Teachers responsibilities also include safeguarding the welfare and well-being of the learners, ensuring they are in a safe and supportive learning environment.

Communication: Effective communication is essential in this role. As the teacher you will liaise with learners, employers, and relevant stakeholders to ensure everyone is informed about the progress and development of the apprentices.

About You

·         You will need to possess excellent communication skills, have confidence and be able to build an engaging learning relationship with learners to motivate them to achieve to the best of their ability.

·         Expertise in the subject matter being taught and the ability to apply this knowledge through practical, real-life illustrations to create an engaging learning experience.

·         A passion and ability to inspire and motivate people

·         Recent teaching or instructing experience which demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles.

·         Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
