Full Time

We are one of the largest partners of the University of the Highlands and Islands, a partnership of colleges and research institutions comprising Scotland’s newest university.

As the UK’s leading tertiary education provider, we deliver both further education and higher education courses and that makes us different from traditional institutions. Through an innovative approach to learning and some of the best online learning technologies, we offer our students the complete learner journey, where they have choice and flexibility to study from access level right through to PhD.

UHI Inverness is at the heart of the community. Working closely with businesses and stakeholders, our curriculum and research capacity is designed to meet the ever-evolving needs of industry and support the strengths and ambitions of the region. Through a personalised approach, we help our students discover the right pathway, providing a combination of qualification and job-ready skills to succeed in the workplace. UHI Inverness has locations at Inverness Campus and also the Scottish School of Forestry (Balloch), a growing hub for research, innovation and enterprise set within a 215-acre site.

UHI Inverness is fast becoming one of Scotland’s top performing institutions with student outcomes and student satisfaction being among the best nationally. However, we are very aware that adverse childhood experiences and the ongoing circumstances of some students mean that they face additional challenges in achieving success.

As Corporate Parents, UHI Inverness work collectively with a network of partners to offer a comprehensive range of support to students with lived care experience to ensure individual’s needs are met throughout the entirety of their learning journey. In addition, specialist support is also offered to estranged students, carers, refugees, forces families and any learner requiring additional consideration to manage their transition into further and higher education. We also want to ensure that we widen access across our communities to engage with learner groups who are furthest from education and who may not always consider tertiary education as an option.

We are recruiting an Access and Transitions Co-ordinator to engage particularly with these individuals; to coordinate transitional support to facilitate access to education; and to provide ongoing robust support throughout the learning journey from pre-entry to positive destinations.

This is an exciting opportunity to have a real impact on the lives of our learners and to make a difference to those who are furthest from education and who face the greatest life challenges.

We are looking for a team member who has a professional knowledge of working with care experienced young people and will bring an empathy and understanding of the variety of barriers and additional challenges which some individuals may face in both accessing and sustaining education and who is committed to and focussed on implementing positive change within the sector.

The successful candidate will need to be solution focussed, resilient, resourceful, and be capable of managing a complex and busy caseload which is both planned for and subject to the emergent needs of learners. They will bring enthusiasm to the delivery of our support service and will have an aptitude for building positive relationships with a wide range of individuals both within our organisation and with our external partners whom we work closely with.

The post holder will be subject to a PVG Disclosure Scotland membership before commencing employment.
