At Kirklees College we are always looking for new talent, and welcome applications from all sectors.

Whether in a teaching & learning role or in one of our specialised Business Support functions, you’ll be involved in nurturing and developing the next generation of construction workers, engineers, health workers and countless others.

We’re already a successful college, but we’re continually striving to be better and do better - be part of our story!

Your primary role will be to ensure the safe operation of the training café and teaching kitchen in the Foundation Learning departments, with specific responsibility for Health and Safety, maintaining equipment and stock levels and supporting students with SEND to develop employability and life skills. This is a hands-on role working alongside tutors and support staff.

We are looking for someone who is flexible, dedicated, keen to upskill and a good team player who is willing to bring and share new ideas. You will have experience in a catering setting and be able to coach others in following safe working practices, customer service skills and modelling practical cooking skills for the café.

The primary purpose of the post is to facilitate the safe and effective running of the practical teaching environments within the Foundation Learning department (café and kitchen) while maintaining a high-quality learning experience for students. You will need to have excellent written and verbal communication skills as writing and updating risk assessments is a key aspect of the role.

The qualifications deemed essential for this post include relevant qualifications in Catering, Food Hygiene and Health and Safety (or relevant industrial experience) and a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C). The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.

Due to the nature of our work, it’s essential you’re committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

We believe learning is not just for our students: it’s an important part of working here too. Staff development opportunities include a mentoring scheme, financial contributions for external qualifications and skills development for current and aspiring managers. You’ll also have access to a range of staff benefits including an employee assistance programme, retail and leisure discounts and reduced Metro travel.

We want people who believe in the value of education, and who can contribute to our culture of supporting and challenging one another.
