We are one of the largest partners of the University of the Highlands and Islands, a partnership of 13 colleges and research institutions comprising Scotland’s newest university.

As the UK’s leading tertiary education provider, we deliver both further education and higher education courses and that makes us different from traditional institutions. Through an innovative approach to learning and some of the best online learning technologies, we offer our students the complete learner journey, where they have choice and flexibility to study from access level right through to PhD.

UHI Inverness is at the heart of the community. Working closely with businesses and stakeholders, our curriculum and research capacity is designed to meet the ever-evolving needs of industry and support the strengths and ambitions of the region. Through a personalised approach, we help our students discover the right pathway, providing a combination of qualification and job-ready skills to succeed in the workplace.

UHI Inverness has locations at Inverness Campus and also at the Scottish School of Forestry (Balloch), a growing hub for research, innovation and enterprise set within a 215-acre site.

UHI Inverness is fast becoming one of Scotland’s top performing institutions with student outcomes and satisfaction being among the best nationally. One of the things we pride ourselves on is the level of wrap around support we provide to our students across their experience. This includes personalised learning support for students with a declared need.

The role of Learning Support Team Leader provides an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic, and influential individual to lead and manage the day to day running of our Learning Support team, who provide support to students with disabilities and additional support needs as part of our wider Wellbeing and Learning Support team.

Alongside our existing Education Support Advisers (ESAs), the Learning Support Team Leader will support students across our full range of further, higher and post graduate education courses by creating Personal Learning Support Plans and Needs Assessment Reports for Disabled Students’ Allowance, and by delivering 1-1 specialist support to a caseload of students. They may also provide some general study skills advice to individuals and groups within our support venue on campus, The Bothy.

The Learning Support Team Leader will line manage and support our small team of ESAs, ensuring that our Learning Support service continues to offer an efficient and high-quality service to students. They will be a point of learning support advice for lecturers and professional services colleagues, students and applicants, and will direct some of the work of the team’s administrator. They will work with colleagues across departments on verification activity for awarding bodies such as the SQA, and will contribute to relevant committees, UHI networks and working groups, as required. Reporting to the Wellbeing and Learning Support Manager, the Team Leader will influence team strategical planning, with its opportunities for creative and innovative problem-solving to meet increasing demand.

We are looking for someone with a working awareness of equality and diversity legislation, who understands how best to provide practical and personalised learning support to our students to help them realise their full potential. You will also have a working understanding of the barriers to learning faced by many young people and be capable of building positive relationships with those who may face additional challenges.

The successful candidate will need to be resilient and highly organised, with excellent communication skills and an aptitude for building positive relationships with a wide range of individuals.

The post holder will be subject to a PVG Disclosure Scotland membership before commencing employment.

Application closing date: 5pm, Tuesday 30th May.

Interviews will be held on Monday 12th June.
