Actual salary range: FTE £24,232 - £25,713 (pro rata for hours/weeks).

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with the Pastoral Support team. In the role of Pastoral Mentor you’ll be based at one of the college sites, but flexibility to travel to all centres is required.

The overall purpose of the post is to provide effective coaching to ‘at risk’ students on an individual basis or in a group setting to support the success and progression. You will work in collaboration with curriculum staff and internal/external agencies to support students where there are barriers to engaging with education. You will provide pastoral support as well as being the lead contact for safeguarding disclosures for an identified caseload of students.

The ideal candidates will have previous experience of working with 16 - 19 year olds, including disengaged ‘hard to reach’ students who have barriers to meeting expectations of behaviour and will be able to understand the range of support which may be necessary to help them succeed. You will need excellent communication skills, a commitment to the welfare of young people in education and a willingness to undertake relevant staff development. The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and maths at grade A*-C) and a Level 3 qualification relevant to the post e.g. BTEC, NVQ, A-Level equivalent.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
