Due to significant growth in our SEND provision, an exciting opportunity has arisen for the SEND Department within the Student Experience Directorate at Kirklees College. The new positions of SEND Lead will join other dedicated professionals to manage a team of staff within a curriculum area, whilst also providing exceptional student support and preparing young people for adulthood.

The successful applicant will provide high quality support across the college, working with the SENDCO to ensure appropriate plans and strategies are in place to support students from school transitions, into, through and out of college to a positive destination. The successful candidate will be able to line manage a team of support workers including timetabling, provide interventions from available data, oversee the EHCP process including annual reviews and students feel valued and well supported in appropriate ways in preparation for adulthood.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working with young people with SEND in an educational capacity, have in-depth knowledge of EHCP’s, the SEND Code of Practice and support strategies also being able to use their own judgement and initiative in complex situations leading to successful outcomes.

The qualifications deemed essential for the post are a minimum of a Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) also educated to minimum Level 3 in Learning Support, trained in moving and handling, administering medication and 1st aid or be willing to obtain within 2 years. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.

Hours & Salary:

37 hours, 52 weeks: £22,243 to £23,549 per annum

30 hours, 40 weeks: £16,248.72 to £17,202.76 per annum
