Catering Assistant – Refectory Services

Are you already working in education and looking for a new challenge? Or employed in industry and looking to work more closely with your community?

Whether in a teaching & learning role or in one of our specialised Business Support functions, you’ll be involved in nurturing and developing the next generation of construction workers, engineers, health workers and countless others.

We’re already a successful college, but we’re continually striving to be better and do better - be part of our story!

In the role of Catering Assistant in one of the college refectories, you’ll be based at one of the six college campuses. Your focus will be on providing a welcoming yet professional approach to providing students and staff with good quality food which is a varied menu that offers healthy options, meets a wide range of dietary requirements, and is value for money.

Your key responsibilities will be to accept deliveries, place orders, prepare and serve food and drinks, and handle cash and card payments to the college community.

Ideally, you’ll have a current Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate or be equally experienced and have experience in customer service. You’ll also have at least a level 2 qualification in maths and English. It’s important that you’re able to communicate effectively with both staff and students alike, engage easily with our students and be able to clearly demonstrate our College values of Kindness, Unity and Excellence in your role.

There are multiple roles available all of which are, 38 weeks per year, term-time only. Working hours are between 7.30am and 3.00pm generally, but these can vary across campuses in both Huddersfield and Dewsbury.

Due to the nature of our work, it’s essential you’re committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. You will also be provided with appropriate personal protective equipment for the role.

We believe learning is not just for our students: it’s an important part of working here too. Staff development opportunities include a mentoring scheme, financial contributions for external qualifications and skills development for current and aspiring managers. You’ll also have access to a range of staff benefits including an employee assistance programme, retail and leisure discounts and reduced Metro travel.

We want people who believe in the value of education, and who can contribute to our culture of supporting and challenging one another.

Hours: Between 7.30am and 3.00pm (up to 35 hours) generally, but these will vary across the multiple posts
