Programme Area Manager for Humanities and Applied Studies

Hours: 36 hours per week

Established in 1889, and with our roots stretching back even further, Morley College London is one of the country's oldest and largest specialist providers of adult education. We provide long-term, sustainable and affordable programmes of lifelong learning across three centres – North Kensington, Chelsea and Waterloo – including 16-19 provision at North Kensington and Chelsea.

As one of only nine Specialist Designated Institutions (SDIs) in the UK, we serve more than 17,000 students through a coherent, student-centred course offer, underpinned by our mission to empower individuals and strengthen communities through education in Arts, Culture and Applied Sciences. Whether studying for personal development and well-being, to gain essential skills (English, Maths, IT), to access higher education, or for career development or change, our vision is for ambitions to be inspired and achieved through learning.

Following Morley College’s merger with Kensington and Chelsea College in February 2020, the College is reshaping its curriculum and professional service teams to facilitate an ambitious plan for development and growth. As the UK looks to a post-COVID recovery, Morley College London is more determined than ever before to support Londoners to learn, and so we’re looking for applications from talented individuals with commitment and enthusiasm.

About the role

  • Are you passionate about improving life opportunities through education?
  • Do you have experience of working with young people and/or adults in a further and/or adult education setting?
  • Are you ready to join a newly renovated college centre in an exciting and thriving London community?

If so, we want to hear from you!

The North Kensington Centre for Skills, part of Morley College London has undergone a refurbishment and rebuild following a £32 million investment from the Department for Education.

The money was invested into this education space as part of a London college merger and post Grenfell recovery strategy into the local area. We are a community and skills development focused centre of education which is proudly diverse and ambitious for all learners on all pathways to achievement.

This is an exceptionally exciting time to join the team at North Kensington and to be part of Morley College London. As part of an enthusiastic and tireless team you will have a once in a career opportunity to design and develop new curriculum across the arts working with specialist teachers to design programmes for a fast-changing world, working with local employers and other education providers in the process.

The centre currently provides long-standing provision in Humanities, specifically in Access to HE programmes. Curriculum development opportunities include humanities related programmes but also programmes the design of which bridges other curriculum areas of Health and Science, Business and ICT.  Programmes will also focus on high level skills development for employment across a broad range of sectors including hotel management and tourism, to serve the local and national economies.

In this role we are interested in candidates who both recognise and can identify the local and national economies of the future, so that all curriculum design enthuses the participants to engage in the first instance and to learn with confidence in the benefits of their chosen programmes.

We actively position this centre as the ‘go-to’ space for learning within the local community and beyond whatever the intended destination. Our progression promise not only enables students to progress within, but to confidently develop skills which enable the students to move on to other opportunities in both education and work which may sit outside of the centre and the wider college.

Morley College London aims to have a workforce that is as reflective of the diverse population that it serves. The College particularly encourages applications from ethnic minorities and disabled people who are currently under-represented within the wider College at this level.
