Business Lecturer

Waltham International College is a provider of Higher and Further education for adults which aims to integrate the talents of its students with their visions and aspirations to support them in their success.

A position has become available for a Business Lecturer at the London Campus for an enthusiastic and motivated individual. The postholder will be able to design, develop, and produce learning and teaching materials and deliver across the module, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the College’s strategies, policies, procedures, and contribute to activities which influence leading-edge practise.

Location: Barking main site (IG11 7NR) & occasional travel to Birmingham campus (B1 2HF).

Contract: Full time 40 hours a week, permanent, with part-time posts available

Availability to teach on Thursday/Friday/Saturday and Sunday is essential.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Relevant subject-related Degree essential
  • Business related Masters essential
  • Relevant teaching qualification essential
  • 1-2 years teaching experience in a college environment essential

Duties:

  1. Use appropriate learning, teaching, support, and assessment methods
  2. Manage assessment instruments and criteria
  3. Assess the work and progress of students by referring to the criteria and provide constructive feedback
  4. Extend, transform, and apply knowledge applied from any scholarship to teaching, and appropriate external activities
  5. Appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances to achieve their full potential
  6. Refer students as appropriate to services providing further support
  7. Effectively manage examinations, and assessment of student attendance, performance and progress.
  8. Conduct academic interviews for new applicants as and when required
  9. Occasional travel to other locations maybe required

Person Specification:

  • Ability to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge as well as to peers using high level skills
  • Act as a responsible team member, leading where required, and develop productive working relationships with other members of staff
  • Co-ordinate the work of colleagues to identify and respond to students’ needs.
  • Identify the need for developing the content or structure of modules with colleagues and make proposals on how this should be achieved
  • Exercise responsibility for the design and delivery of own modules and assessment methods taking into account established or agreed College or awarding Body practice where necessary
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the implementation of assessment procedures
  • Be able to prioritise own workload, able to work independently, and as a team.

 A full-time lecturer will be expected to teach between 18-24 hours a week maximum during a term. However, the teaching workload is dependent upon other responsibilities and will be balanced through the Colleges workload allocation management model
