The Civil Engineering Division is seeking to appoint an experienced and pro-active laboratory technician to provide support to the teaching and technical team and to support our undergraduate and postgraduate students. The Civil Engineering laboratories cover a wide range of experiments including Soil Mechanic, Structure Mechanics, Fluid& xa0; Mechanics & Dynamics, Concrete Technology, Material Science Testing, and Field Surveying.

Job Description

You will help to assist with independent and original research for a large team of undergraduate students and research team within the department and contribute to the practical teaching objectives of the departmental experiments & research projects. You will interact on a daily basis with students and teaching staff of the civil engineering group and provide assistance in all civil engineering laboratory experiments and outdoor related field works. You may also be required to assist in the activities of the departmental research group and supervise undergraduate learners.

Your duties will also include contributing to the smooth running and regulatory compliance under H&S regulators

Qualifications Required

You must have UK degree or equivalent vocational/professional qualification in Civil Engineering, plus a wide range and intensive experimental work experience in relevant technical/scientific roles. Good knowledge H &S compliance is essential along with intensive practical civil Engineering laboratory skills and online editing ability to publishing experimental instructions for virtual learning. Evidence of good track records of civil engineering laboratory work is essential. Good verbal and written communication skills, accurate record keeping skills and the ability to prioritise tasks to meet tight deadlines with little supervision are essential. You must be computer literate and a highly motivated individual with demonstrable ability to learn. You will be expected to work in a collaborative manner, be open-minded with a positive approach to develop and apply new concepts, as well as to problem solving. The position may require occasional travel to other collaborating sites within UK and flexible working hours.

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 1 year with possible renewal subject to the availability of funding. You will be based on the main college campus in Cranford, West London .
