We are one of the largest partners of the University of the Highlands and Islands, a partnership of 13 colleges and research institutions comprising Scotland’s newest university.

As the UK’s leading tertiary education provider, we deliver both further education and higher education courses and that makes us different from traditional institutions. Through an innovative approach to learning and some of the best online learning technologies, we offer our students the complete learner journey, where they have choice and flexibility to study from access level right through to PhD.

UHI Inverness is at the heart of the community. Working closely with businesses and stakeholders, our curriculum and research capacity is designed to meet the ever-evolving needs of industry and support the strengths and ambitions of the region. Through a personalised approach, we help our students discover their right path, providing them with a combination of qualification and job-ready skills to succeed in the workplace. UHI Inverness has locations at Inverness Campus and also the Scottish School of Forestry (Balloch), a growing hub for research, innovation and enterprise set within a 215-acre site.

We are seeking a candidate for a 2-year fixed term position as Senior Researcher (Centre for Living Sustainability), to work as part of the CLS team. CLS is successfully attracting increasing numbers of research projects and we are looking for a candidate to increase our capacity.

Additionally, the post-holder will be responsible for leading on and writing grant applications which will further expand activity in the Centre and increase revenue.

The post-holder will also work with the Director to build graduate and post-graduate teaching programmes with support of the Tertiary Education Leaders with colleagues in UHI Inverness and across UHI.

This is a new post to provide support for increasing volumes of work which current centre staff do not have the capacity for. This post will enable current and confirmed projects to be completed to a high standard and will also be expected to develop partnerships and collaborations and lead on and write grant proposals which will lead to sustainable continued funding and further expansion of the centre.

This is a fixed-term contract to carry out the following:

  1. Lead on and write social science and interdisciplinary grant applications, particularly in the areas of childhood, youth and/or sustainability.
  2. Build social sciences research capacity across UHI Inverness and with UHI and community partners.
  3. Build relationships with tertiary education providers across UHI Inverness and UHI, and to further develop graduate and post-graduate teaching programmes.
  4. Work on current and confirmed research and KE projects, and to develop research dissemination and uptake.
  5. Develop partnerships and collaborations across Scotland and internationally to further expand and develop CLS.
  6. Support the ongoing running of the CLS with the Director and the Research Development Facilitator.

Please note, the successful candidate will be subject to a PVG Disclosure Scotland and other background checks.

Application Closing Date: 21/09/22

Shortlisting will take place on 22/09/22

Interviews will be held week commencing 30/09/22
