Go Higher Progression Officer (for Higher Education)

Hours of work: Full time, 37 hours per week

Duration: Fixed term contract until 31 July 2023

Location: Based at Wakefield College - WF1 2DH

Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY), a partnership of 13 Higher Education Providers in West Yorkshire, is looking to appoint a Go Higher Progression Officer to support the delivery of our Uni Connect programme, funded by Office for Students (OfS). Phase 3 of the Uni Connect programme started in August 2021. 

The Uni Connect project seeks to identify and address issues, around progression to higher education for those from groups currently under represented in higher education. Working with selected groups of learners across the college you will support their aspirations, and transition into Further and Higher Education. You will ensure that all who have the potential to succeed, have the opportunity to do so.

You will be responsible for support in the development of a sustained and progressive programme of activity for your target group to support progression to higher education. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the programme, liaising with institution staff to arrange events and activities which respond to the needs of your target group and involve parents/carers where possible. This will include working closely with Senior Leadership Team, teaching staff, careers staff, Higher Education Providers, the wider Go Higher West Yorkshire Uni Connect team and external providers of activity.
 
You will be required to work on a flexible basis, in line with college hours and which will include some evening, weekend and holiday work.
  
As a Go Higher Progression Officer, you should: 

-    Have the knowledge and experience of the UK higher education and school system, with detailed knowledge of processes and procedures of higher education entry and progression routes
-    Have GCSE A* - C / 9 – 4 in Maths and English or equivalent
-    Be able to evidence success in project management and administration, with the ability to produce written reports

You should also be able to demonstrate: 

-    The ability to engage with and motivate young people (specifically within the age group 16 – 19)
-    Have an understanding of the ethos and purpose of the Uni Connect project and a demonstrable commitment to widening participation in higher education
-    Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
-    Strong IT skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel
