Bath College is a successful Further Education college, critical to delivering the Post-16 Education and Skills agenda and thus the economic success of the Region.  This is the most critical period for FE in the last 30 years. Reskilling, upskilling, regeneration all look to further education to underpin the restructuring of our social and economic prospects. This role is an essential enabler in this.   The College is diverse and inclusive and is fully committed to serving the communities around both campuses (Bath city centre and Westfield) as well as the wider community via delivery from over 40 different community venues.

The role:  0.5/0.6 FTE on an annualised hours basis, with the opportunity to work flexibly via a mix of homeworking and some attendance in college for meetings, development days etc.  Due to the timings of our meetings, and the availability of Board members, it is essential that you are able to work flexibly. This is likely to include evening work.  There will be administrative support provided by the Principal’s office.

We are seeking a new Head of Governance on the retirement of the existing post holder.  This is a key strategic role in the organisation responsible for ensuring that the Corporation Board are in a strong position to lead the direction of the College at a time of change in the sector and that there is a strong internal governance and policy framework to support this.   You will have the support of a highly committed and capable Board of Governors and a highly motivated and skilled Senior Management Team.   You will work closely with the Chair and the Principal/CEO to manage the governance business.

You will bring substantial relevant experience of working in a Governance or Company Secretary role.  You will have a strong interest in and understanding of how excellent governance and compliance can support the culture and success of an organisation and be able to apply your knowledge in a sensitive and pragmatic manner.  You will be able to communicate clearly and confidently, with discretion and provide accurate and concise advice and clear and informed recommendations.

If you are looking to take that next step in your career and play a key part in the future success of our college, working in both a collaborative and supportive culture, then this could be the role for you.

Flexible working, a generous annual leave entitlement, the Local Government Pension Scheme, Employee Assistance Programme and opportunities for professional development are available.

Further details are provided in the attached Job Description.

Application Closing date: 19 August 2022
