Lecturer in Engineering

Heart of Yorkshire Education Group are looking for a person to deliver on the Higher Education (HE) programmes for three days a week within the Engineering department at Selby College.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to deliver on a variety of engineering units within the HE engineering programmes specifically Maths, Science and Principle based units, ensuring that the students/apprentices receive the highest quality teaching and achieve their outcomes. Included within the role will be the expectation to be able to contribute to a wide variety of industry upskilling programmes and the development of curriculum programmes to meet industry needs.

Key Accountabilities

These include:

Planning and delivering/teaching and assessing on a variety of courses within HE engineering particularly around the subject of Maths, Science, materials, Principles, Thermodynamics.

Ensuring schemes of work are produced to meet the requirement of the course and consistent assessment procedures are continually maintained

Preparation of assignments, internal test and examination papers

Monitor, review and evaluate student progress so that students achieve their objective

Keep accurate records of students, student reviews, assessments and resource use and give feedback to employers/parents as required

If a course leader, you will be responsible for the accuracy of exam entries/registrations for the course/subject and liaison with examinations department, other team members and external exam entries/registration awarding bodies as appropriate

The Person

We are looking for someone who has experience of teaching or training in an engineering environment or an experienced tutor in maths/sciences/engineering.  Having experience in Further or Higher Education will be an advantage.

You will have a relevant qualification at level 3 or above and will have a desire to share your passion for engineering and your subject with the engineers of the future, whether full time students or apprentices.

You need to be able to demonstrate that you can manage the paperwork associated with teaching students and demonstrate that your students/trainees achieve their outcomes.

Terms and Conditions

This is a part time role – 22.5 hours.

Holiday entitlement = 22.5 days, plus closure days, plus up to 6 Directed Study days.

Salary range = £26,023 - £34,259 (Actual salary for part time = £15,825 - £20,833)

The ideal start date for this role is late August 2022

All work in the College involves some degree of responsibility for safeguarding children, although the extent of that responsibility will vary according to the nature of the role. A DBS check is a requirement for this role.
