Educational Interpreter - British Sign Language

Hours: 35 hours per week, term time only 40 weeks

Location: Wakefield City Campus

We are recruiting for an Educational Interpreter to join our dedicated Additional Learning Support team. This is a specialist and varied role where you will provide appropriate non-teaching support to Deaf learners.

Specifically, this role will involve:

- Providing appropriate support for Deaf learners and those who are hard of hearing, both in class and other College situations, as well as within external organisations.

- Mentoring and supporting members of staff and liaise with them on the specific support needs of students.

- Developing specialist information and resources for students and staff.

- Identifying, assessing, and monitoring support needs, then communicating learner requirements with outside agencies, members of staff and parents/carers.

 As an Educational Interpreter, you will:

- Have experience of providing support for Deaf people as an interpreter/communicator, preferably within an educational setting

- NVQ Level 6 in BSL (or former Level 4 BSL qualification) or be working towards this qualification

- Demonstrate good IT skills which will ideally include experience of using assistive technology to support Deaf learners.

- Ideally have previous experience of mentoring staff and delivering training

- Qualifications in Lip-speaking and Note-taking is advantageous
