As a Nottingham College Careers Adviser you will provide a Matrix quality assured, supportive and learner centred key support service to students at the college.The service working in collaboration with a variety of other support services and curriculum teams,provides opportunities and experiences for students to develop a range of Skills knowledge and behaviours to prepare them for the next steps in their career journey.As a Careers Guidance professional, a main focus of your role will be to provide specialist careers guidance one to one with individual students which equips them with career management knowledge to support progression and decision making.
In the role of trainee careers adviser,you'll further develop your skills, qualities and knowledge to perform the role of Careers adviser fully, by shadowing initially, working in collaboration with the wider team to deliver group sessions, receive peer mentoring and undertaking between 15 – 18 months of formal study, through potentially blended learning models, observations, evidence gathering and assignments to achieve the full QCF Level 6 Diploma in Careers guidance and development.Depending on your preferred method of learning we will adapt to the most suitable format of training package offered between a range of providers such as the Career Development Institute of Futures for Business.
We are therefore seeking an enthusiastic, positive individual who is fully committed to working within this field and has the energy and intellectual ability to manage the demands of the study whilst developing in the role.The supportive team you’ll be working alongside will provide peer support, and in addition you can expect ongoing supervision and support from the college Careers Leader who will line manage this role.
Requirements to be successful in this role:
Applicants should ideally be qualified to A Level or BTEC Level 3 standard, or can demonstrate significant experience of working in a similar guidance role and have Maths and English at GCSE Level 4/Grade C as minimum.
Applicants must have a genuine desire to work with young people and be committed to providing the highest level of careers guidance and support to enable students to progress to their desired career goal.
Applicants must clearly state why they wish to undertake the qualification and include their motivation to work with young people and any previous relevant or transferable experience.
Applicants must be prepared and confident to deliver presentations and facilitate group activity work with students in class size and large groups following a period of training and induction.Therefore, applicants with experience of group delivery and working with groups of students as well as 1:1 is a distinct advantage to your success in this role.
1. After a period of training, knowledge gathering, induction and shadowing you will be expected to deliver careers advice and guidance to students of the college, using a range of approaches including individual Career conversations, group guidance/activity, telephone, email and web based technologies.
2. Involve young people in the planning and review of services as agreed through the careers education policy and the careers leader, utilising a variety of feedback mechanisms.
3. Deliver other information advice and information services as specified in the national Careers strategy, the college Careers education policy and to required service standards e.g. participation in parent/carer events, supporting college/ curriculum based careers activities and events, Open evenings
4. Keep professional knowledge up to date and relevant to role
5. Liaise with and make referrals to other agencies and services as appropriate
6. Record client information in designated student information systems
7. Positively promote the service to stakeholders, students, parents and carers and work collaboratively with curriculum and other college colleagues for the benefit of our students
8. You must have strong organisation skills with the ability to prioritise and manage several different work streams at once without close supervision and have a good awareness of safeguarding and child protection requirements in relation to this role.
