WHAT WE DO 

The Directorate of Estates and Capital Projects comprises Health, Safety and Environment team, the Campus Facilities team, Property and Maintenance team and Capital Projects team. Between them they service the estate across the whole of the Luminate Group; As well as undergoing a significant restructure to enable future growth and address much needed change, the directorate is embarking in a growth programme to create a number of new campuses over the next five years which will address a significant growth in student numbers.

This role would be initially based within the campus facilities team at one of the three main campuses in Leeds: Quarry Hill (situated on Playhouse Square), Printworks Campus (on Hunslet Road) or Park Lane campus (on Park Lane).

Park Lane is a large and growing 6th Form campus, whilst the other two campuses provide vocational training and qualifications in a range of practical and academic subjects. Campus Facilities aim to ensure that users are able to deliver their teaching and learning in a fit for purpose, safe, welcoming and secure environment acting as the site-based representatives of the wider directorate and ensuring our services (security, cleaning, room setups, maintenance and compliance checks and inspections, emergency response, on-site coordination of contractors, among other things) are delivered in a coordinated way that is appropriate to the needs of users.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The responsibilities of the Facilities Assistant team will include opening up the campus and locking up at night. The shift system in operation is based on early (6am-2pm) and late (changeable between different days of the week and term time or out of term time but latest mid week term time is 2-10pm), mostly Monday to Friday but very occasional weekends to support out of hours contract work or open days/events.

Duties include response to emergencies (first aid, fire alarms, security incidents), delivery of safety equipment and PPE to departments, room setups for teaching and events, departmental moves, monitoring of contractors on site to ensure they are following agreed methods of work, monitoring student behaviour and intervening in a restorative way where this is required, taking delivery of goods, post, parcels and equipment as necessary, carrying out and recording maintenance inspections and checks and resolving problems with the building and facilities as a first responder (making it safe and escalating to other teams where more qualified staff or contractors are needed).

YOUR PROFILE 

You must have English and Maths at Level 2 (GCSE) or equivalent, some previous training or experience in health and safety in the workplace.  Be a qualified first aider within the probation period, full training for this will be provided. Also useful would be a driving licence, SIA licence or some general maintenance skills or a willingness to learn as we can support you to achieve these.

You should be able to work on your own initiative, be proactive and present yourself in a professional manner at all times as a key member of the Campus Services team.
Good communication skills are essential in order to understand work instructions and comply with health and safety requirements as well as completing the required paperwork. You should also be confident to speak to staff & students on the campuses.
