Plymouth College of Art is widely regarded as a dynamic, innovative community of creative learning and practice in arts, media, design and communication: one of a small number of university sector independent art schools remaining in the UK. Nationally and internationally recognised for innovation across the continuum of creative education and for its ethical commitment to creative learning [through pedagogical innovation] and social justice [through community impact and social mobility]. PCA continues to foster international partnerships, developing a vibrant culture of scholarship and research.
Forward thinking, PCA is a creative community working across the fields of contemporary art, craft, design and media, with a focus on inquiry-led practice and integrated learning. The College puts the student at the centre, and is committed to interdisciplinary dialogue and open resources, providing an exciting context for collaboration, network building, and professional opportunities.
BA (Hons) Fashion Design at Plymouth College of Art is a dynamic and growing subject area having a strong regional identity within an international context.
Housed in spacious open plan studios at our Tavistock Place campus, our students have access to industry standard pattern cutting software and equipment, digital design capabilities, industrial sewing machines, specialist machines for sportswear, lingerie, leather and tailoring, plus a range of knit machines. Students on all of our programmes also have access to our extensively equipped FabLab for rapid digital prototyping.
The programme is focused upon innovative and sustainable fashion design with high graduate employment and growing international links.
If you have a strong fashion design background, are up to date with leading fashion design issues, trends and styles in relation to a range of fashion markets and a particular specialism in digital design capabilities we would like to hear from you. A commitment to professionalism and integrity in higher education is essential along with previous HE teaching experience plus a formal teaching qualification.
The role will ensure the highest standards of learning and teaching, research and scholarship, knowledge transfer, and student experience in line with the ambitions of the School of Design + Communication, and in support of PCA’s strategic plan. The post holder will be active in their field contributing to Plymouth College of Art’s emerging research culture.
Questions regarding the programme area can be directed to Peter Barker, Head of School Design + Communication email pbarker@pca.ac.uk
