Job description

There has never been a more exciting time to join The Oldham College. In January 2019 we were confirmed by OFSTED as a “Good College”.

The OFSTED report stated that we are regarded as a “Good” across every area: “Our quality of teaching, learning and assessment are good”, “overall achievement has improved” and “we continue to nurture the culture of inclusion across the college. Staff, learners and apprentices embrace and promote equality of opportunity and celebrate diversity”

Come and join Oldham College in its ambition to become “Outstanding” and the “Best Place to Learn and Work” across all of our provision. Our HR service is pivotal to this ambition as we develop and drive forward our People Strategy.

We are a local college with a reputation for dynamism and success and provide high level technical and vocational education and training.

We embrace and encourage all those who are driven to better themselves, achieve their goals and reach new heights. Excellent resources combined with exceptional tutors and student support means that whatever your ambition, we can help you to achieve it.

Each year approximately 500 young people choose to continue their studies with us either as a full-time student or apprentice, a further 200 choose to undertake a university-level qualification with us and around 100 adult students.  Overall we have around 5,500 full-time students in the College and 700 in our University Campus.

Youth Worker (term time 40 weeks)

We are looking for a passionate youth worker who has extensive experience of engaging with young people. You will work directly with students across the college, supporting faculties with a range of engagement strategies, designing and promoting activities for students in response to raising attendance and punctuality. You will work collaboratively with faculty staff, student welfare officers, safeguarding and safety and engagement in providing a safe and trusting environment for students to flourish. You will carry out home visits, parental/guardian liaison and attend wider community based visits to support and engage with students effectively. You will have the opportunity to support community outreach initiatives designed to support recruitment in line with college targets and attend meetings, case conferences and reviews when needed.

Applicants must have a level 3 or above professional youth worker related discipline including social work, youth work, community work or outreach work. Safeguarding training and a minimum or GCSE/L2 in English and maths.

The role will require you to embed and work to the college’s values; working with Integrity, having Ambition to help our learners succeed and being Inclusive to learners and colleagues alike.
