Perth College UHI is one of Scotland’s leading Colleges of Further and Higher Education, and a large partner in Scotland’s newest University, the University of the Highlands and Islands.
We are looking for an experienced scientist with a background in Biology or Chemistry to join our team to support the teaching of science programmes, from entry level to degree, although predominantly at SCQF levels 5 - 7. In addition to units in Biology and/or Chemistry you may be required to deliver units in Environmental Science.
The campus is well resourced to deliver a first-class learning experience with a well-balanced mix of lecture theatres, classrooms and laboratories.
As a lecturer you will contribute to shaping the future of the next generation of scientists through teaching and other scholarly activities such as research and industry engagement. Within your specialisation, you will be responsible for: preparing materials for learning, teaching and assessment; for the teaching of theory and practical aspects; supervising student project work; and contributing to the development of the UHI programmes in Science.
Opportunities for personal development are available through UHI and at other universities.
Candidates should as a minimum hold a degree in a relevant discipline as you will be required to teach up to and including degree level. Previous teaching experience is also desirable as is an ability to teach across broader science disciplines. Industrial experience would be a strong advantage. In addition, you should be a well-motivated self-starter with good communication skills who is able to work effectively with a team. A strong customer-focus and an awareness of the requirements of industry and working in a laboratory are essential.
