The 14-16 Skills Development Programme has moved to Mabgate to a purpose-built environment for our pre 16 provision. This will incorporate facilities to support students prepare for adulthood alongside studying English and maths and having the opportunity to 'try out' vocational courses to support their progression. The 14-16 Skills Development Programme is for students aged 14-16 who are unable to access mainstream Year 10 and Year 11 provision. In 2021/22 we have 85 pre 16 students Students referred to the course who often have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and/or additional SEND needs which has resulted in their disengagement from mainstream provision. Many of the students who attend the provision have an Education, Health and Care Plan.


  • You will welcome learners into college, identifying issues and concerns as soon as practicable.
  • You will monitor students ensuring compliance with College rules and policies, submitting incident reports as required to promote a positive professional Campus culture.
  • You will provide general management of student behaviours and readiness to learn outside the classroom environment, including badge checking and dress code compliance. You will act as a role model, encouraging students to want to develop self-awareness, independence and individuality and helping them to reach their full potential.
  • You will maximise attendance and punctuality rates of learners against college/department targets and developing strategies to minimise internal absenteeism.
  • You will generate learner interest in cross college clubs, sport, cultural and social activities 7. Contribute to appropriate informal learning and pastoral curriculum themes.
  • You will work closely with curriculum teams to ensure clear and consistent messages are being given
  • You will be a safe contact for students 10. Liaise with relevant external agencies to support the health, safety and wellbeing of students
  • You will praise and celebrate student achievement
  • You will develop a presence in the Campus/College including classrooms and library
  • You will lead or support extra curricula activity where appropriate
  • You will monitor the external building and take appropriate action to ensure this space is safe


  • You should have experience of working with young people in an education or community setting 
  • You should have experience of motivating and inspiring young people
  • You should have experience of managing inappropriate and risky behavior in a non-confrontational manner.
  • You should have  experience of liaising with external agencies
  • You should have experience of managing safety and security
  • You should have knowledge and experience of promoting wellbeing
  • You should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships
  • You have the ability to engage and enthuse young people
