The Built Environment Learning Area at Gower College Swansea has experienced considerable growth in recent years notably in its development of sustainable energy education and training. The College is looking to continue to grow the curriculum offer of this learning area to further incorporate its traditional curriculum with sector leading, innovative curriculum development, in response to regional and national employer demand in line with current and emerging directives and initiatives within the economy.

Leading the Built Environment Learning Area in an exciting time of curriculum change and the role will focus on building on our existing provision to offer even more choice and opportunity to learners on Full Time and Part Time courses and also Apprenticeship routes through our large Work Based Learning contract.  The Learning Area also offers professional qualifications to industry professionals and a key focus will be the opportunity to further expand our Higher Education provision.

The provision is based on one of our largest sites as well as our specialist site – Jubilee Court, and includes our Energy Centre, based at our Hill House site and our Sustainable Energy Centre at Jubilee Court.  Provision in this Learning Area is delivered by a professional, highly qualified team of staff with considerable relevant industry experience.

This post offers a unique opportunity which will enable the successful candidate to utilise their leadership skills and professional experience and to work with professional contacts to help create a skilled workforce which will support the growth of this vibrant industry including the Swansea Bay City Deal regional plans.

The Learning Area Manager will be responsible for the effective academic management and quality assurance of their area.  Contributing to the development of an aspirational culture of innovation and outstanding learner experience, the successful candidate will develop an appropriately commercially focused curriculum which meets the local and regional priority needs and maximises employability prospects for our learners.

Holding a first degree in a related discipline and a teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent), you will ideally possess a Post Graduate/Higher degree in Leadership and Management or be willing to work towards one.

With a  knowledge of local/regional and national context affecting FE colleges including curriculum development, you will have an understanding of FE funding methodologies including HE, WBL, 14-16 and ideally experience of developing and accrediting HE provision.

We are looking for candidates who can bring innovation, energy and a can-do attitude, supported by an in-depth knowledge of a relevant sector and understanding of the skills needs, as well as relevant industry contacts.
