Plymouth College of Art was founded in 1856 and remains a fiercely independent specialist, Higher Education Institution (HEI), with a dependable reputation for innovation and purposeful partnership. The College has a very strong regional profile and a growing national and international reputation.

We are looking to appoint an innovative, committed Senior Lecturer in Graphic Communication to join our small team. Working across our HE programmes you will be responsible for the design and delivery of curriculum to students at BA (Hons) level and lead an established team of professionals. This team has recently launched a new iteration of our well renowned undergraduate course in BA (Hons) Graphic Communication as part of the institution-wide Common Unit Framework.

You will work in a self-directed manner, leading a vibrant and creative team.  You will take a pinnacle role in the promotion of the programme in developing materials and activities to recruit students.   Flexibility to attend Open Days as well as recruitment events will be essential.

You will need to have knowledge and experience that would include typography and graphic design (publishing, packaging, infographics etc.), moving image, illustration and more.  An interest in branding strategies, transmedia storytelling and interaction design would be an advantage.

You will have technical experience in digital design and a practical knowledge of current software packages aimed at supporting our student's skillset. This may include but is not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, AfterEffects, Premier etc.), webdesign (Wordpress, CSS, HTML) and free and open source equivalent software (such as Blender, Scribus, Inkscape).

You will be an exceptionally motivated and qualified studio practitioner who will help us realise our ambitious agenda for the College’s new integrated curriculum at regional, national and international levels as part of our new BA (Hons) Graphic Communication course. HE teaching experience is essential plus either a formal teaching qualification or the willingness to work towards one.  Experience in utilising learning technologies to support teaching and learning would also be desirable as the post may include teaching duties on our distance learning programmes.
