Careers, Work Experience & Progression is part of the Student Life Directorate. The Directorate leads on activities and strategies which contribute to an outstanding further education student experience closely aligned with the college and group strategic objectives. Careers, Work Experience & Progression (CWP) supports students through guidance, opportunities, and experience to make informed life choices about their career pathway and destination.

Work experience and industry placements are integral to this, giving students valuable experience of the workplace and the behaviours and attitudes sought by employers and employees.

The CWP team works collaboratively in department and with curriculum, other service areas and group members to create sustainable options for a diverse student cohort. This role is ideal for someone who has experience of


The key elements of this role are:

Foster strong professional relationships with employers in private, public and the third sectors with reference to labour market intelligence and LEP skills priorities, to drive the quality of meaningful and relevant work experience placements and T-level industry Placements

Through employer engagement, generate opportunities for collaboration including work setting visits, projects, employer forums and all forms of employer related activities such as guest speakers and mentoring

Keep systematic records, analyse findings, and produce on request quantitative and qualitative reports to inform directorate updating and service development

Line management responsibility


The successful candidate for this role will need to be innovative and collaborative in their outlook, with excellent communication skills.

In their professional practice they will need to demonstrate attention to detail, experience of business engagement and understanding of curriculum and the needs of a diverse student cohort.

Including the following:

1. Demonstrate commercial awareness and knowledge of LMI and LEP skills priorities

2. Understanding of the diversity of the student body and the impact of individual difference on career and learning choices

3. Experience of leading teams and activities, and mentoring, coaching or supporting staff

4. Proven ability to liaise, negotiate and influence a variety of individuals and organisations

5. Ability to track, evaluate and compile reports demonstrating excellent attention to detail, writing and presentation skills
