Learning Support Assistant, Part Time, Reduced Year (HC048)

The role is offered for up to 5 days  per week for suitable candidates, Term Time Only.

The days will be set near the beginning of the academic year but may be subject to change if the student they are supporting has a timetable change. Hours per day are likely to be 7.4 but there may be some flexibility, depending on which students staff are supporting and their needs.

WHAT WE DO 

SEND Support is a busy, friendly department at Harrogate College.

We are responsible for organising in class support for students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) as well as mentoring for students with learning difficulties and disabilities, and exam access arrangements.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you would provide support for our High Needs students, ensuring that they make progress academically, socially, and towards the targets set out in their EHCPs.

This role would suit someone who has experience, or who is interested in gaining experience, working with young people with special needs; someone who wants to work part time, largely during term time and who is able to be flexible about the days that they work.

They should be quick to establish a rapport with young people; keen to know as much as they can about the needs of their students and strive for best practice and excellence.

They will enjoy the close community of a smaller college whilst having access to the professional development and opportunities of our larger college community in the Luminate Group.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Be involved in planning, preparation and assessment of learning as part of the curriculum team

Provide in and out of class support to meet identified needs of students who have High Needs

Provide curriculum teachers/assessors and SEND team members with verbal and written reports on student who have High Needs or SEND and feedback on strategies used and progress towards outcomes on EHCPs

Assist with emergency evacuation plans and practices

Attend annual reviews of EHCPs as requested to update on progress and behaviours

Assist in learners' transport arrangements and helping students to develop independent travel skills where needed

Assist with personal care and medical requirements as necessary. Support with the physical care of students who are less mobile

YOUR PROFILE 

Experience of working in a team supporting students with High Needs or SEND in their learning and preparation for adulthood

Clear oral, written and IT communication skills, with the ability to connect with a range of audiences at different levels

Strong awareness of disability and equality and diversity issues and the range of Special Educational Needs

Willingness to be adaptable and flexible to meet the requirements of students with High Needs and SEND

Able to work effectively as a team member, sharing best practice with others

Able to establish rapport and to maintain professional boundaries
