We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated member of staff to work with us as a Wellbeing Activities Officer on a fixed term basis.

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a suitably skilled and qualified Wellbeing Activities Officer to work within our Wellbeing and Learning Support team. Working predominantly with young adults experiencing a variety of challenges, this is an exciting opportunity for someone with the right set of skills to join a busy and proactive Wellbeing team within an educational setting.

You will be assisting our Wellbeing Officer with the planning and delivery of wellbeing workshops, drop-in sessions and wellbeing events- both on campus and online. You will have a regular presence within our nearby student accommodation, getting to know the students who live there and being their point of contact when wellbeing support is required. You will liaise with our local HISA colleagues and the UHI Student Development Officer to develop positive social opportunities and wellbeing activities for these students, to support their personal development and facilitate opportunities for strong and healthy relationships. You will also be responsible for establishing and supervising local peer support and mentoring volunteer schemes, under the direction of a UHI coordinator.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Youth Work (or a similar field) and will be a natural at establishing supportive relationships with young people. They will be aware of the common issues affecting young people and have a working knowledge of local health and social care services and third sector support providers. They will be an enthusiastic and outgoing team-player, who can handle challenging situations with leadership and empathy when required. Inclusive values and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries are essential to the role.

Essential Criteria:

  • Significant experience of working with young people in an education/youth setting
  • Understanding of key issues experienced by young people, including mental health challenges
  • An understanding of Safeguarding procedures
  • Experience of developing and delivering workshops
  • Experience of leading activities and/or groups
