Annual Salary: Between £40,000 and £45,000 depending on experience
Pension: Workplace pension scheme with employer contribution of 10%
Holidays: 25 days plus up to 5 during Christmas closure period
Location:
Based in Tottenham with regular visits to Whitechapel and occasional travel to Manchester

We are the Government’s National College for Digital Skills, a high performing technical college with the mission of educating and empowering the next generation of diverse digital talent. We currently employ around 45 staff and educate just under 400 students and apprentices. We work with a fantastic range of industry partners to fulfil our mission including Deloitte, Bank of America and Salesforce.
We currently operate across three sites, two in London (Tottenham Hale and Whitechapel) and one in central Manchester. Over the next two years we expect to have moved into larger long-term buildings in both cities and will be growing our staffing and infrastructure to support our growth plans and the move to new premises.
We are looking for a Head of IT with experience in the Education sector who can lead and deliver a first class IT function that supports the college in its growth ambitions. This is an exciting opportunity for you to define and deliver the college’s IT strategy and ensure an effective service that supports staff and learners.
The role
You will lead on defining and delivering the IT strategy and function to support the college’s mission and growth plans. You will have responsibility for the IT service and technology operations for staff and learners across the college.
You will initially have sole responsibility for the function with support from the Director of Finance and Operations and will then quickly identify and resource the appropriate structure.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Defining and delivering the IT strategy for the college
- Managing IT staff and resources to deliver the day to day operations of IT Services including oversight of the IT helpdesk
- Undertake performance management, training and motivation of IT staff
- Ensure the provision of a continuous service which meets organisational strategic goals
- Work with the Director of Finance and Operations to develop and manage the IT budget and support the annual planning process
- Undertake growth analysis, capacity planning, availability and service continuity management
- Control and manage IT assets ensuring users have the tools needed for teaching, learning and administration
- Manage procurement and tendering adhering to relevant regulations and financial processes
- Lead on business continuity, IT and information security including design, drafting and maintenance of relevant policies and processes
- Manage and monitor the performance of suppliers and contractors who offer support or delivery of ICT systems.

The successful candidate will have the following essential qualities:
- A background in systems integration (networks, servers and services) and / or application management (databases and enterprise applications)
- An ability to take a long-term strategic view and develop successful strategies for action through effective planning, review, and administration
- A clear understanding of the impact of the availability and quality of IT Services and support on the achievement of the colleges’ objectives
- Ability to effectively and efficiently organise time and resources to complete work accurately, thoroughly, and on time, detailing deliverables and tasks accordingly
- Aptitude to analyse and adjust work processes or methods to accommodate changes in work requirement
- An ability to provide leadership, direction and coaching to others to enable achievement of objectives
- The ability to assign work to others and empower them to undertake tasks whilst maintaining accountability
- An ability to communicate efficiently and confidently to staff, teachers, and students
- A focus on customer service with the ability to identify and meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders in order to deliver a high-quality service
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex systems, networks, and application performance issues
- Knowledge of current best practice, products, statutory, and regulatory requirements, including Data Protection, and Freedom of Information
