We are recruiting 3 Youth Work Interns to deliver a wide range of engagement and personal development interventions to 16-19 year old students through a Covid recovery nurture programme to support successful transition into their college courses and campus life.

This is a Fixed Term post, expected to end 01-Sep-2022

WHAT WE DO

The Student Life team is responsible for the personal development, behaviour and attitude of all our Further Education students, which was judged Outstanding by Ofsted.

We directly deliver services to students - safeguarding, welfare and mental health and wellbeing are at the centre of what we do - and we work closely with curriculum departments to support development of staff, who support students.

The Youth Engagement project will target 16-19 year olds in recognition of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on young people, who have been disadvantaged by missing education and interpersonal interaction in a school / college environment, lost opportunities for experiential learning such as work experience, study trips and career-related learning and lost opportunities for social engagement and having fun.

This will support students into positive learning, apprenticeship and work destinations

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Assess the needs of the referred students to correctly plan and deliver one to one and group interventions and programmes related to their areas of need, such as social isolation, low confidence, or skill development.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with students and encourage participation and involvement in the planned activities and interventions.

Help reduce and remove the barriers students face to participate fully in their college course and campus life.

Effectively manage and take responsibility for a caseload of students and maintain accurate records and data to feed into quarterly performance reports.

Support students accessing the programme to sustain education, attendance and engagement on their college course including planning progression.

YOUR PROFILE

The successful candidate, alongside a passion for improving the lives of our students, will have: Experience or an interest of working in a related role with young people at a commensurate level of responsibility.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate, inspire and establish and maintain good relationships with young people.

Experience of planning, organising and delivering creative, innovative activities and engagement projects for young people in formal and informal settings, and the confidence to set up and deliver new approaches.

A strong commitment to young people and an empathy and understanding of the factors affecting their lives.

Experience of working with external partners to support young people and of developing and maintaining relationships with community organisations and the ability to work as part of a team and work on own initiative
