WHAT WE DO

The Supported Engagement Programmes at Somerville House offers a small and supportive setting for young people aged 16-24 who have been unable to engage with education previously. Students on these courses may not have previously achieved the grades they need in order to progress, and are at risk of becoming NEET. Students in this department often have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The department aims to support all students to re-engage with education using a system of positive rewards, bespoke timetables and personalised goals and targets. We require 2 Student Relations Officers to support students outside of the classroom

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  •  You will be required to work with students in small groups or one to one to help them to make progress towards their personal goals and targets.
  • You will provide well-being support to students who may be in crisis and support them to return to class.
  • You will support the students to achieve their academic goals but also help them to re-engage with education and support positive behaviour.
  • You will help students to access out of class services and enrichment opportunities and will act as a key adult for a caseload of at risk students.
  • You will also ensure that any student risk assessments are followed and that students are safe while on the campus.

YOUR PROFILE

  • You will be a confident communicator with a background in supporting students with EHCP and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will be willing to adapt and reflect on your practice to ensure students are at the heart of your decisions.
  • You will be a confident user of IT and will be able to record and log student intervention work accurately.
  • You will enjoy the challenge of working with previously disengaged students and will be able to work with external partners such as Social Workers with confidence.
