WHAT WE DO
The Supported Engagement Programmes at Somerville House offers a small and supportive setting for young people aged 16-24 who have been unable to engage with education previously. Students on these courses may not have previously achieved the grades they need in order to progress, and are at risk of becoming NEET. Students in this department often have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The department aims to support all students to re-engage with education using a system of positive rewards, bespoke timetables and personalised goals and targets. We require a Job Coach in General Maintenance and Gardening to support students outside of the classroom to develop their employability skills.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- You will be required to work with students in small groups or one to one to help them to make progress towards their personal goals and targets.
- You will be required to work with the students to maintain the campus, classrooms and garden area.
- You will coach them in basic maintenance skills and will act as a mentor for their internal work placement with you.
- You will support the students to achieve their academic goals but also help them to re-engage with education and support positive behaviour.
- You will also ensure that any risk assessments are in place and followed.
YOUR PROFILE
- You will be a confident communicator with a background in supporting students with EHCP and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs as well as have general maintenance and gardening skills.
- You will be willing to adapt and reflect on your practice to ensure students are at the heart of your decisions.
- You will be a confident user of IT and will be able to record and log student intervention work accurately.
- You will enjoy the challenge of working with previously disengaged students and will be able to work with external partners such as Social Workers with confidence.
