Work Placement Coach JD updated July 2021

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join the rapidly expanding Work Experience Team at Nottingham College. This is a fundamental role that supports our students, helping them to gain work experience and begin their first steps in their career. Through a number of work experience opportunities our students gain employability and self-management skills along with building on their confidence and gaining a better understanding of the industry.

This role is student focused, with the aim of inspiring and motivating our students to undertake work experience opportunities whilst helping them to understand the importance of doing so. These opportunities include work placements and employer enrichment opportunities such as guest speaker sessions and interactive Q&As.

You will need to build strong working relationships with the students in your case load, promoting the work experience opportunities available, supporting them with their applications and helping them to meet their requirements for a work placement. This may include coaching them on basic employability skills and gaining tutor support for any specific technical knowledge they may need prior to their placement. You will also manage student attendance whilst out on work placement and provide any support and pastoral care required. Whilst on their work placement you will be the first point of college contact for the student whilst they are based at the company site.

This role will also involve working closely with your counterpart in the Work Experience Team who is responsible for generating suitable work placement for the students in your caseload. This role has a high level of autonomy and therefore self-management, organisation, reliability and professionalism are key at all times. Strong communication and IT skills are required with a working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite. Experience within this sector or a learner support background is not essential but would be beneficial.
