Health & Safety and Environment Advisor
Harrow College and Uxbridge College is a large Further Education college with 10,000 staff and students based on four campuses in West London – Uxbridge, Hayes, Harrow-on-the-Hill and Harrow Weald.
Reporting to the Head of Estates and Security, in this role you would be the principal health and safety and environment specialist within the organisation, and will need the ability to work across all campuses on a flexible basis. In addition to extensive liaison with others in the Estates team, you will be required to provide advice to the Senior Leadership Team on legislative changes. Also critical to the role will be your ability to support Curriculum Managers and teaching staff to ensure a thorough understanding that the College's Health and Safety Policy, procedures and practices to maintain and ensure a safe working environment for all staff and students.
Duties of the post holder include:
- To provide Health and Safety advice, support and services to all staff throughout the College to assist them in achieving compliance with their duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act and supporting regulations.
- To carry out Health and Safety and Fire Safety audits, make appropriate recommendations and notify the Head of Estates and the Senior Management Team of any improvements which require attention.
- To liaise with appropriate regulatory authorities/agencies/Health and Safety Committee on health and safety matters to secure the provision of a safe and healthy environment.
- To manage the Environmental accreditation for the College.
We are looking for a knowledgeable and well-motivated professional with a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification and five years’ experience of working in an environment with a strong focus on Health and Safety. Your health and safety experience may come from a range of industries, although some education or public sector experience would be preferable. A good knowledge of current legislation and best practice around risk assessments are essential and a flexible approach is also important.
