Leeds City College is part of the Centres for Excellence in Maths programme which is a national improvement project, aimed at delivering a step change in maths teaching up to Level 2 in post-16 settings. This includes networking opportunities and CPD activities to support and further develop our Maths teaching staff and Maths curriculum across the College.

Within the School of Events, Enterprise and Employability at Leeds City College we offer a range of study programmes across levels 1 to 3, alongside apprenticeships.

Our curriculum offer includes:

  • Level 1: Personal and Social Development, Customer Service
  • Level 2: Enterprise & Employability, Marketing, Team Leading, Customer Service, Business and Enterprise
  • Level 3: Event Management, Principles of Leadership, Projects and Personal Management, Marketing, Business and Enterprise

As part of our curriculum offer all learners who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in GCSE Maths will study Maths classes with us and sit the GCSE exam in the Summer. 


We are looking for a Course Leader for Maths who will lead our Maths provision across the department. The role will include:

  • Leading the Maths curriculum across the School of Events, Enterprise & Employability
  • Using innovative curriculum design to create a Maths programme that engages learners incorporating project based learning
  • Line managing Maths teachers in the department
  • Leading internal standardisation activities across the Maths department
  • Delivering Maths classes across a range of levels within the department


You will have experience of teaching GCSE Maths across a range of levels, working with learners with targets grades ranging from 1 to 4.

You will have:

  • Level 5 Teaching qualification
  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge and recent delivery in the Further Education or school sector
  • Ability to lead the Maths curriculum across the School of Events, Enterprise & Employability
  • Experience of support other staff and leading on a part of the curriculum
  • Recent teaching delivery which demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs
  • Ability to inspire and motivate learners to achieve their optimum 
  • Experience of working with challenging learners is desirable
