Currently, our new state of the art STEAM Academy is under construction on our Pencoed Campus, with completion due for the next academic year in September 2021. This exciting new building will accommodate teaching, learning and support facilities for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. We are also welcoming the construction of a new Landbased centre later in 2021 to further enhance the experience of our staff and learners. 

The Academy will be a flagship for showcasing 21st century teaching and learning, bringing economic and cultural growth to the Bridgend County Borough area. This is in line with a bid to develop further employment and training opportunities in the region, in keeping with Welsh Government’s strategic priorities.

The Apprentice Technician in Electrical & Mechanical Engineering role involves working with various staff and technicians, in the areas you will undertake activities in order to support the learning of students and gain skills in multiple disciplines. You will be supported and developed to proceed through a Level 4 Engineering apprenticeship and will be supported through academic study up to Level 4 qualification within the college for up to two years.

About You

You will work with teaching staff across the Engineering curriculum to prepare equipment and/or facilities for teaching and help maintain equipment and tools. You will also consistently maintain a safe working environment in all areas in which you work. Alongside this, you will be working towards your NVQ, completing all the required academic study, with support from lecturers and colleagues. You will be released from your role 1 day a week to attend College to support your apprenticeship.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, alongside a Level 2 PEO in either Electrical or Mechancial. You will also be willing to work towards higher qualifications and possess good verbal communication and listening skills.
