WHAT WE DO
The Welfare Officer works in the Welfare team which provides advice and support to students which may affect their ability to study and progress.
By removing barriers to learning students so they can focus on their college life.
The team is part of the Student Engagement and Student Life team which focuses of supporting students Personal Development, Behaviours and Attitudes so they can have the best possible experience.
We want someone to join our positive team who can support students with their wide knowledge of welfare issues and links to organisations who can work together with us to improve the lives of students.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Provide advice services to students on welfare issues that may be creating a barrier to students accessing education.
- Welfare issues include money and funding issues, benefit problems and housing.
- Provide advice through face-to-face meetings, telephone and online duty service.
- Taking student referrals direct from students and staff throughout the college, prioritising according to need, vulnerability and urgency of issue.
- Manage a caseload of students experiencing Welfare issues through effective support, information and referral with the aim of ensuring students attend, achieve and progress in their chosen area
YOUR PROFILE
We are looking for someone who has.
- Experience of delivering welfare advice in an education, community or other advice setting, particularly working with clients experiencing financial hardship.
- knowledge of financial support and of welfare issues which can be barriers to learning or progression and experience of supporting clients to overcome these.
- Experience of working with vulnerable groups in an educational, or similar, setting.
- Knowledge of the student fees, finance and funding.
- Experience of working with a range of partners and referring into their services.
- Current knowledge and experience of Welfare issues
