Apprentice Foundry Operative, Metal Casting and Foundry Patternmaking Technician

The individual will be required to be flexible and work within all areas of a small Jobbing/batch Shell/Air set foundry, incorporating foundry operations of core making, moulding, casting, furnace operation/metallurgy and a variety of finishing operations including inspection.

Wrekin Shell Mouldings has a vacancy for an apprentice Foundry operative who will be trained in all aspects of Air set and Shell moulding process from the initial pattern making stages up to inspection and dispatch.

The individual will be required to be flexible and work within all areas of a small Jobbing/batch Shell/Air set foundry, incorporating foundry operations of core making, moulding, casting, furnace operation/metallurgy and a variety of finishing operations including inspection.

The operative will be mentored by selection of senior foundry personnel with a wealth of knowledge and ability to train, help, advise and assist in the apprentice’s development.

Please note that this position requires a vast amount of heavy lifting and manovering. during our day-to-day processing. 

The individual will be mentored by an experienced member of our existing staff in all areas of their foundry activity.

Duties will include:

• He/she will be participating in all aspects of core making, moulding, metal melting, metallurgy, metal treatment, pouring, knock out, various finishing operations and inspection
• He/she will be involved in the use of the company’s computer system for record keeping and access to technical and manufacturing data/information
• Be instructed to complete and update the required foundry records
• He/she will be instructed in the safe use and operation of appropriate health and safety rules/conditions, COSHH and the correct wearing of PPE
