This apprenticeship is for two years, you will gain experience in the production planning function of United Steels Ltd. Full training will be given on the job and working towards your apprenticeship qualification.

Production Planner Apprentice: - 

Full training will be given but your role will work towards:

  • Health & Safety - To undertake all activities safely and responsibly in accordance to the United Steels Ltd H&S policy

Planning:

  • To ensure that material allocation is as efficient as possible in achieving correct yielding and minimum scrap %
  • To ensure that the planning of the processing is made with the primary objective of maximising production within the shift constraints
  • To ensure that all processing orders are confirmed and clearly scheduled on metal production planner
  • To ensure all paperwork is checked and is accurate with all relevant processing data (tolerances/packaging etc. bespoke to each job) is detailed on all production paperwork allowing uninterrupted production
  • To liaise with Team Leaders to produce and post the relevant resources plan for the following day based on production requirements
  • To ensure that all necessary paperwork is on each line in good time so there is no interruption to the production flow
  • To ensure that the transport department are liaised with (daily meeting) to meet customer delivery expectations in line with production lead times
  • To ensure all outside processing orders are signed off by a second party
  • To ensure all outside processing functions are managed in line with the USL process flow
  • Once all orders are in the production plan all responsibility for these jobs fall on the production department to manage in line with customer requirements/production lead times until completed and passed over to transport. *the Production Planner is responsible for all communication regarding progress/ deviation during this time
  • Manage & monitor all production lines you are responsible for to ensure that all production progress is in line with the daily schedule. *any deviation from this is to be communicated and reviewed to bring schedule back in line (joint responsibility with Team Leaders)
  • Manage all KPI’s set by the business for each production process that you are responsible for on a daily basis, ensuring that all necessary actions are taken/ highlighted to maintain and improve the targets (10% rule)
  • Report results against all set KPI’s you are responsible for on a weekly basis on the USL processing template

Bay and Stock Management:  

  • To communicate and report on stock levels in USL bays you are accountable for, highlighting any results weekly that exceed your set KPI’s on this subject
