WHAT WE DO 

Leeds City College is the main education provider for post-16 students within the Leeds City region. Foundation Studies require additional learning support assistants to provide additional educational and individual support for students who have high needs or SEN, to enable them to enjoy a fully inclusive college experience, to achieve and progress.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Be involved in planning and preparation and assessment of learning as part of the course team.
  • Provide in-class support to meet identified need of students who have high needs.
  • Provide curriculum teachers/assessors and Learning Support team members with verbal and written reports on students who have high needs or SEN.
  • Assist with emergency evacuation plans and practices, and helping with all emergency evacuations.
  • Attend team meetings and staff development sessions as required.
  • Keep accurate and timely records, recording progress and strategies used, as required.
  • Have any other duties as determined by the line manager
  • May be involved in learners’ transport arrangements and helping students who have high needs to develop independent travel skills where needed.
  • At the direction of the teacher/assessor, accompany small groups of learners on local excursions.
  • Assist with personal care requirements if necessary. Support students in off-site activities including the use of wheelchairs.

YOUR PROFILE 

  • You will have a level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or committed to achieving this within one year of appointment.
  • You will experience in working in a team in an educational setting.
  • You will have experience of working with students who have high needs or SEN to support their learning Computer literate.
  • You will co-operate in any staff development activities required to effectively carry out the duties of the post and to participate in College staff review and development schemes.
  • You will comply with all College policies and procedures, as well as with all legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • You will promote a positive image of the College. Any other duties commensurate with the level of the post, which may be required from time to time.
