CU Coventry is a subsidiary of Coventry University offering higher education experience, designed to fit around the student’s lifestyle and wider commitments. CU Coventry’s teaching and learning strategy is geared towards providing the skills and competences, which are essential to preparing students for the world of work, through our portfolio of vocationally relevant degrees.

We require a new (on a full time,1 year fixed-term contract) member of staff to join us. The individual will have expertise in Professional Policing and ideally, also with current experience in Law. The policing sector is undergoing a real change, and the Professional Policing course, as well as our Law & Practice degree, have been reviewed and adapted appropriately in order to fully prepare students for a successful transition into the sector.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter and able to demonstrate effective communications with students, tutors and academia at all levels. They will have a passion for learning and innovative approaches to pedagogy, especially in the new way in which we are now delivering. Applicants should have a minimum of a master’s degree or equivalent industrial experience in Professional Policing.

Experience and demonstration of excellence in preparation for learning and teaching, supervising student project work, and creating exceptional assessments for student outcomes to be realised is essential as well as possession of a recognised teaching qualification (or be willing to gain one). Experience of module management is desirable.

Duties include teaching on and preparing materials for a range of undergraduate and/or professional courses. Tutors are expected to contribute to courses that run in a variety of modes, to include day, evening and/or at weekends through on campus and online teaching environments. Tutors will also provide support to senior academics for module delivery and assessment as well as outreach and marketing activities, as required.

The ambition to succeed in a competitive arena is essential with a focus on creating an outstanding academic student experience.
