With the pending retirement of the current post holder, the Board of Directors of Newbattle Abbey College is seeking to appoint an outstanding individual as the new Depute Principal.
As Scotland’s national adult education residential college, Newbattle offers a range of learning opportunities to adults returning to education and to younger learners at points of transition. Our programmes include Access to Higher Education Courses, an HNC in Social Sciences, Rural Skills, Preparation for Further Education and Celtic Studies. We welcome students of all ages across Scotland and further afield and have developed major strategic partnerships at local and national level to promote access and inclusion. Newbattle plays a key national role in adult learning and has led innovative national developments, including the Adult Achievement Awards and the Forest and Outdoor Learning Awards.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in further education and in developing adult learning opportunities. The Depute Principal will also have the necessary skills and experience to extend the college curriculum in collaboration with a wide range of local and national partners. A successful track record in further education and in managing diverse teams is essential, as is a proven ability to lead and manage innovative projects. Leading quality development across different disciplines and reporting on progress are key parts of the remit. Significant experience in strategic planning is also essential.
The Board is looking for an inspirational manager with a track record of achievement in further details, experience in adult education and an ability to develop successful partnerships with staff, students and external stakeholders. As Depute to the Principal & Chief Executive, the successful candidate will be required to contribute to the overall management of the college and its diverse portfolio, including commercial activities.
