Nationally there is a challenge to improve young people’s numeracy skills. Considering recent changes to the funding methodology, this is also a challenge for the Further Education colleges. All students who have not received a grade 4 to 9 in maths and English when leaving school now have to continue to study alongside their vocational qualification.
The closure of schools and colleges in March 2020 due to Covid-19, has also impacted on the delivery of Maths and the continued development of key skills.
In order to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are looking for a bright, committed and innovative individual to run additional small group maths lessons for our 16-19 learners who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 in Maths.
The purpose of this rewarding role is to make a significant contribution to the effective delivery of the curriculum, support gaps in knowledge and skills, build learner confidence and ensure a high quality and relevant learning experience for students across the college. It is a fantastic opportunity to work as part of a large and dynamic team within a well-established Further Education college.
The main responsibilities of the role will be to teach maths related subjects at our Dewsbury and Huddersfield centres and to develop programmes of study to meet the particular needs of our 16-19 learners who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 or above in maths. The successful candidate will also be required to assess students in accordance with the requirements of the programme and to contribute to systems of quality and advice and assist in the effective organisation of the department by the proper establishment of such syllabuses, schemes of work and records as may be necessary from time to time.
The qualifications deemed essential for the post are: A minimum of Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C), a relevant and up to date qualification at Level 3 or above in maths or a related subject, and a level 5 teaching qualification or willingness to work towards within an agreed timescale.
As a learning organisation and as part of our commitment to your continued professional development we may require you to complete an apprenticeship standard or framework that relates to this opportunity. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is also essential for the post.
